Context

Venmo’s card team needed to increase repeat usage of the QR-based debit card. Early iterations of their reward system had low visibility and poor engagement. 🛑 Users didn’t understand how to earn rewards 💤 Reward screens felt static and disconnected from their spend habits 🎯 Goal: nudge users to shop more—and return

My role

As lead designer, I owned the end-to-end UX for the Punch Card redesign. My focus was clarity, motivation, and visual continuity with the card ecosystem, delivered in tight collaboration with engineering and product growth teams.

Action plan

✔️ Reimagined Punch Card as a visual tracker embedded in the wallet ✔️ Simplified iconography and hierarchy to guide user steps ✔️ Added personalized merchant callouts and nudge logic ✔️Collaborated with engineers to deliver performance-ready UI

Results

🚀 Delivered with strong internal + user feedback ✅ Increased completion of reward actions (trackable in product logs) 🧩 Became reference UX for other card features 💬 Cited by Venmo leadership as “a clean solve for user stickiness”

Diego adapted quickly to our design team and standards, making him deliver great designs in a timely manner.
