"Diego artfully balanced technical effort and product goals, adapting quickly where reasonable, but also ensuring that we upheld top design standards. I've seen these kind of trade-off discussions get contentious, but Diego always managed them with patience, grace, and expertise."

Overview
Digital Coach is the new focus of Eskalera suite of products: the scalable SaaS platform that drives employee performance, retention, and engagement. Digital Coach is an on-demand micro-burst learning product where situational tips and personalized recommendations are right at your fingertips.
— How might we create an applications that enables employees learn situational skills when they need them while fully managing their learning experience?
How might be provide 2 experiences in one app?
The first conversation the product and engineering team had was: we already have D&I programs that employees know us from, how are now going to provide coach and merge these 2 experiences?
We explored having 2 apps but it brought up more challenges than opportunities so we decided to create 1 app with both products. The prominent product we wanted to showcase was the new Coach, having the programs as secondary. How can we clearly communicate this new focus?
Architecture of the app
We came up with 4 sections/buckets:
Homepage became the passive way of learning. We tell you what you need to pay attention to today/right now, based on what you have not yet completed and what you told us you want to learn so we give you some content.
Discover became the active way of learning. You know what you want to learn and then browse the catalogue to find the situational skill that you need right now.
Profile became your learning hub. You'll see how you are doing in your learning journey, skills you've gained, categories that matter the most to you.
Bookmarks became a secondary bucket in relation to the last 3, and this is the place you'll go to see content you've learned that will be useful to you at any given moment.
Design system
After figuring out the architecture and content of each bucket, I created a design system from scratch, focusing on language and actual components to make sure the experience and interface is consistent across all devices.
Consume content like you are reading a book
This was the experience I wanted to create. Users will swipe the slides of the deck to move forward. This behavior became very familiar and accepted across all users.
Gamification
I wanted to make the app enjoyable and actionable. The design empowers managers and employees to make sure they are reaching their maximum potential while building a healthy work environment.
We reward users for their behavior in the app and encourage them to keep learning.
